Henry (known as Buddy when he was in BSR's care), was a transfer from Field Spaniel Rescue, once that organization determined that their stray really was a Boykin Spaniel. Buddy was around 2 years old when he came into BSR's care, and his foster parents called him "the Gentle Giant" because he was a little larger (50 lbs) than the average Boykin, while being mild-mannered and sweet. Buddy's fosters found that he had some emotional scarring, and seemed to have been over-disciplined in his past, probably yelled at and/or physically punished. As such, He was sensitive to loud noises, quick hand movements and anything that humans might do suddenly that he did not expect. His fosters also discovered that not only could he swim, but that he loved retrieving in the water (though not so much on land)! Buddy was very eager for human kindness and company, and wanted to go wherever fosters were going and would follow them from room to room; perhaps making up for lost time, Buddy loved to cuddle and be petted.
September 2019 Update!
Hello, just received your note in the mail. It brings us great joy to share that our Buddy Boykin, whose name we changed to Henry, is an absolute blessing in our lives! We met the foster couple in Columbus Ohio 4 years ago to pick him up. On the 10 hour ride back to Green Bay, I texted our two daughters asking them to pray that Henry and Riley, our then 5 year old Springer, would get along well.
When we arrived home, 10pm, Riley ran out and they immediately started playing. You can see in the picture how close they are. Henry is gentle and loving and seeks to please us more than any dog I've ever known. He makes us laugh and we cannot imagine retirement without him.
We have a place in Northern WI and he loves watching the ducks, geese and loons out on the lake and will spend hours watching chipmonks in the trees and under the woodpile. He is a blessing to us and brings us great joy. Thanks for asking. May God bless you for your work in finding good home for these pups! Sincerely Kitty and Bob Cook
