PFC Bellamy
Bellamy was 3.5 years old when she came into BSR in the Summer of 2021, having both emotional and physical concerns; and as we dug deeper into both, her status changed to "permanent foster." Also on Bellamy's journey, she has had to overcome some high-level fear reactiveness to strangers and other dogs. Professional trainers worked with her and her foster to provide an appropriate "toolbox" to reinforce her life-long need for reassurance and pack leadership, while continually building her confidence in social situations.
It was also discovered that she had an abnormal amount of hip and back pain for her age, and an MRI revealed arthritic changes all along her spine and hips. The pain from those areas was being managed with medications. However, the progression of her arthritis still left her in pain and discomfort and she needed more aggressive management. Bellamy had a surgical procedure done to help alleviate the pain, and that along with pain medications, kept Bellamy comfortable for several months. Ultimately that procedure had to be repeated, and since she is a poor candidate for anesthesia, her care team searched for alternative ways to help her with her pain management. Currently, she uses a newer external device called a "loop" which so far has offered good results in her continued pain management. Bellamy has come a long way since her intake, but her journey is life-long in BSR's care.
