Dakota entered Boykin Spaniel Rescue's (BSR) care as a 15-year-old senior, emotionally and physically shut down after her owner died and she was transferred to a local animal shelter awaiting an out-of-town family member to collect her. Once she was claimed, she was taken to the vet for boarding and BSR was contacted and asked to take in Dakota, since no family member was in a position to do so. So severe was her condition that BSR was not certain she would survive the upheavals she had endured. After some time in care, and with gentle, quiet handling, Dakota began to eat again and slowly began to recover her health. With time, she began to emerge from her shell and join her new pack. She has become devoted to her new humans and will live the rest of her days in love and security with a Permanent Foster Care (PFC) family of her very own.
