Please Note: We are asking for your patience in the processing of applications. The volunteer who contacts you to start the process will discuss what the process entails, their backlog of applications, as well as options for home visits.
You will not be eligible to submit for available dogs until you have gone through the entire application approval process and, if approved, sent an invite to join our website and create an account (you cannot log in until you are approved).
A $25 Adoption Application Fee is required for each new application. Approved applications expire after two (2) years, but may be renewed within 12 months of expiration. Renewed applications of this sort will still require a brief interview, vet reference check and a new home visit form filed with pictures to update the original. Any subsequent renewals or applications submitted after the twelve (12) month grace period will be fully processed.
As our mission states, all of our intakes are considered "at-risk;" however, some dogs are also deemed "special needs" rescues. Special needs dogs are those that will need extensive, long-term specialized care, some for the duration of their lives, but are not deemed un-adoptable as with Permanent Foster Care dogs. Some special needs dogs will require a forever home close to a specialty veterinary hospital or vet school; some near a rehabilitation facility; some will require on-going intensive, specialized behavioral management training, etc. Because of the extraordinary demands of the attention, time, care and commitment required for them, special needs rescues are not generally open for adoption to the general public and BSR directly places these dogs with forever families who can meet their needs. STEP THREE:
After you have completed the application and paid the Adoption Application fee, you will be contacted by your area's Regional Coordinator for an initial interview at the start of the approval process. This contact can take up to 2 weeks depending on the applicant load in each region. You will not be able to log in to the website and apply for dogs until you are fully approved.
Note: Once you pay the Adoption Application fee, it is up to you to submit the Adoption Application AND respond to a BSR representative when they contact you to set up an interview. We will make 3 attempts to contact and will then close out your application, if you do not respond. We will not refund Adoption Application fees for non-submissions or lack of response.
If you need to put your Application on hold, just let us know. We will hold applications for three (3) months only, with notification.
