What do BSR™ Volunteers Do?

Our volunteers do everything from identify dogs in shelters to assisting with the transport trains, getting these dogs to where they need to be.  Volunteers also perform home studies for both new volunteer and adoption applicants.  And then we have our volunteers who are willing to foster-- short or long term.  Being a volunteer does not mean you need to do all of the above, but assist when you can and how you can.

More About Fostering.

As a foster parent, you'll observe your new canine ward and evaluate temperament, behavior patterns, and look for special talents (birdiness/hunting ability as a example).  It's your job to keep the dog well fed, clean and safe until placed with a new family.  Part of the responsibility of fostering is evaluating the dog's temperament and habits, documenting any information needed to match the dog with the prospective home.

What is the Boykin Express?

Because BSR™ rescues dogs nationally, sometimes BSR™ needs help transporting dogs to different locations.  For example, a dog might be rescued in South Carolina and need to be transported to Virginia. Don't worry, we don't expect you to drive cross- country.  Depending on the situation, we can transfer dogs in stages.  Sometimes, it's just shuttling a dog to a nearby city.

I'm game, how do I get involved?

If you think that volunteering is for you, the process is pretty simple.  Click here and complete our volunteer application.  The Regional Coordinator for your area will contact you to walk you through the process (which includes talking to references and a home visit).  If approved, you will work with your Regional Coordinator to get started!
