Baxter's Journey

Baxter's Journey by Jody Anderson

My name is Baxter and I am BSR alum #1043! Before I came to live with my furever family, I spent most of my time in an outdoor pen with my brother, who was a very dominant dog. It was hard for me to get any attention with him always pushing me aside, but BSR took us in and we both got the individualized care we needed.  The day I met my new family, they brought along my Boykin brother, Luke, and he was great! We got along wonderfully right from the beginning!

When I first came to live with them, I didn't know a lot of commands, and I was a little skinny. Now, I have learned the commands I need to know, and I have put on weight. My parents are patient with me and help me to be the best Boykin I can be. I don't have to gobble all my food down because I know there will be more. I have a great house with a big yard to run around in, and inside, I have comfy furniture to lay on. I also love to snuggle with my parents at night. My Mommy calls me my Daddy's sleeping pill because we fall asleep together in his recliner. I always loved toys, but I didn't know how to share and play with another dog when I got here, but now, I've learned to play with the toys AND Luke; what a great deal!  My favorite toys are my rope, balls and antler.

My typical day depends on if I hang out with Mom or Dad. If I go to work with Dad, I get to run around the golf course, chase squirrels, ride in the gator and meet new people who love on me. We usually have to educate them on Boykins. A day with Mom is more laid back. I keep her company while she takes care of things around the house. When we run errands, we go through the drive through, and I get treats. Either way, in the afternoons we play ball. Luke and I love it. It is my favorite thing to do. I would do it 24/7 if someone would throw the ball for me!

My new life is amazing! My parents and Luke love me unconditionally. I have been able to do all these new, fun things, and I always have Luke to play with. I couldn't ask for more!!
