BSR Alum Berkeley's Success Story by The Conrad Family
Berkley's Adoption Bio:
Hi there! I’m Berkeley, and my foster mom says I am just the sweetest boy! My age is a bit of mystery since I was a stray turned over to a shelter, but I am around 6 years old and about 35 pounds. Boy was I glad when Boykin Spaniel Rescue got me out of the shelter!! I had heart worms, but my super foster mom helped me get through the treatment for that and I am now healthy, happy and ready to find my forever home!
I am a class-A, all-star cuddler, and I don’t miss an opportunity to curl up on the couch with you and go to sleep. I get very excited when it is time to eat….so excited that I will jump with all four feet straight off the ground! Hey, life on the run is tough, and food really is something to get excited about! I get along fine with the other neutered dogs in my foster home, and I am good with children. I am also learning to have an interest in toys, as I relax and learn what a stable life is like.
I have to admit I have a chicken-chasing problem, so it is probably best that I have some human supervision when outside since I am a pretty good escape artist and can squeeze through openings you don’t know are even there!! But I am still learning where I belong, and don’t try that trick as much as I used to since life here is grand! But wanderlust is hard to kick, so my people will need to keep an eye on me! I will go to my crate for a small treat, but I don’t like storms and if I’m in my crate when a storm is approaching, I will scratch and bite at the crate to try to get out. I do calm down after a while, but I really do better with storms when I am out of the crate.
The best home for me is one with people who are home a lot and who have the commitment and the time to continue to build on the foundation of training from my foster home. Learning basic obedience and confidence will be essential, and lots of good exercise now that he is cured of heart worms. Mostly, what I want a secure, stable and loving home so I don’t feel the need to wander again. No cats would probably be best, but other non-dominant dogs would be good company!
