NIX BSR Alums "Bo & Dixie" by Jennifer Wood
We began fostering Bo and Dixie in February 2010 as their previous owners were elderly with health issues. Both dogs were around 1 1/2 and appeared to be in decent health despite being a little thin. It was obvious that neither had been around many people and neither dog was housebroken. When they were brought to our house Dixie had to be carried to the house - she was terrified and would not let you get anywhere close to her collar. My husband best described her as "a raccoon on a leash". She was terrified and wanted nothing to do with anyone. In fact, she lashed out several times any time she was approached in the first 24 hours we had her. Bo was pretty happy just to have someone to pet him.
Since we have children, Dixie was our biggest concern. However, much to our surprise she jumped up next to my husband on the couch at the end of her first day with us. She has since then made a complete transformation. She would run when she saw people and had no leash manners - now she is super friendly and happy. She LOVES the children and desperately wants the cat to play with her. Bo is fantastic as well. He has turned into our Frisbee dog and would stay in your lap all day if you would let him. He loves to have the youngest pat on his belly and both dogs enjoy stealing stuffed toys.
Our family fell in love with both of them and decided to adopt them both. We have had them now for a little over 3 years and can't imagine life without them!
Their favorite activity is to go for a 5 mile trail run in the Clemson forest and long pontoon rides on the lake.
We feel very fortunate to have them in our home and are grateful to BSR!
