Hi, my name is Charles. I am a 4-year-old anomaly of a Boykin…calm, quiet and reserved! I weigh 35 lbs and I have the perfect wavy coat. Before living with my foster family, I spent my life as an only dog and raised in a house with small children. I love kids and am very gentle with them. I don’t jump on people and am very well behaved and reserved.
I love to go for walks; I do still pull a little on a leash, but I am learning. I enjoy car rides and will sit still, quietly watching out the window. I know all of my basic commands like sit, down, stay and here. I will listen almost all the time; the only exception is if I see a bird or squirrel or if someone turns that sprinkler on – then my hidden excitement comes out and my “ear muffs” go on so I can’t hear what you want me to do! I do not do well with small animals or cats, as I love to play chase, while they do not!
I am crate trained and I love my kennel. If you just tell me to “go to bed” I will happily do so; no questions asked. I love my dog toys and will play by myself with the toys, happily growling at them and tossing them around as I play. My foster mom says I am sooooo quiet, except when I play. Whether I am playing on my own with a toy or playing with my new friends (my foster mom has 3 Boykins Spaniels), I am vocal and show my excitement with happy growls all while I play. I do not get into things I shouldn’t. Even if the kids leave things lying around or food on the counter, I will leave it all alone.
When I am not playing or watching birds out the window, I will want to be by your side and especially cuddled up in your lap. If you do not like dogs sleeping in your lap every evening, then please keep scrolling because I am very serious about my cuddle time!! Every evening I will give you “that look” and rest my chin on your leg asking if I can sit with you. Time with people is more important to me than anything else!
I am not interested in hunting or retrieving, and I do not like sudden loud noises. If I see a squirrel or bird I will chase after it; and, therefore I must have a house with a fenced yard. I can be left alone for several hours, but I still need some good solid exercise every day. And, my snuggle time is non-negotiable!
I am looking for a home that can commit time to love and give me the attention I deserve. I also would like to continue my training to make me the best Boykin possible. Children would be great and I love the company of other friendly dogs. If you are looking for a guy with a big heart, I am your man!
20220 Update:
We received your note today. Here are some photos of sweet Charles. He is the sweetest boy. His best friend is Henry. These two love each other so much. I get up every morning and walk both Charles and Henry. We come home to get a treat and then breakfast. The boys then start their morning play. They play tug a war with toys and then run around in the back yard looking for squirrels and lizards. Charles is a professional lizard hunter and Henry likes to walk around the sun ledge in the pool and eat leaves. Charles rarely gets in the pool. I guess he doesn’t know he’s a water dog. He loves the water at the beach though After yard play, the boys then go upstairs to the office for more playing then naps. We walk in the afternoon and then eat dinner. Charles still loves to go in his kennel to eat. He never goes in it unless it’s dinner time. Both boys like to snuggle in bed with each other and us. He seems to be very happy and we love having him. We took the boys to my parent’s farm a couple of weeks ago. Charles and Henry both ran through the cotton fields and swam in the pond. They were so happy. We are so thankful to our friends at Boykin Spaniel Rescue for choosing us to be Charles’s parents.
