Bio: Hi I’m Chauncey-a fun loving, affectionate 4-year old who loves to snuggle. I have a large frame for a Boykin and at 49 pounds, my foster family is helping me trim down a bit. But as you can see from my photo, I am a handsome boy with a beautiful coat. I’ll make a great companion for someone who has plenty of time for me since I love being with my person and I have lots of energy to burn.
I know most of my basic commands like sit, here, and I can even shake when asked. I love to loved and to be with you, whether going for a walk, following you around the house or cuddling in the evening. I’m still working on those basic house manners like nor peeking on the counters for that yummy smelling food and not jumping up to greet my friends. I am learning not to bolt out the door or to dig holes. But with some consistent training, I am already making progress. I sleep in my kennel at night and tolerate it for short times during the day. I’m a little bit obsessed with lights and shadows, but my foster family redirects my attention to something else. I walk pretty well on a leash.
I get along fine with other dogs though I can become an attention hog from time to time. Cats don’t seem to bother with me so I just leave them alone too. I get along fine with my foster human sister who is a respectful 12 yr old.
When I came to Boykin Spaniel Rescue I had some bad ear infections and a couple of spots that needed to be checked out. There was nothing to worry about and I have a clean bill of health. I will probably need to continue to have my ears cleaned on a regular basis, like all Boykins do. I haven’t shown much interest in retrieving or birds, but I would make you an awesome companion!
I’m looking for someone who is active and has lots of time to spend with me. I need a good bit of exercise and like all Boykins, mental stimulation too. I want to be the best dog I can be so if you would continue to work with me on my inside manners and basic commands that would be great. Another dog would be great as I would love to have a friend that I can learn and grow with. A fenced in yard is important too.

March 2021 Update:
Wow! It is hard to believe that it has been two years since I picked up Chauncey. I want to thank BSR and Michael and Tina Mills for everything they did for him. He has been the biggest blessing for my fiancé and I. Chauncey's favorite thing to do is to chase squirrels and go on runs. He loves curling up right beside his mama on the couch. He is his mama’s constant shadow. To be honest he rules the house. Thanks so much for everything BSR!!
