Hi! My name is Leia, I recently came into BSR's care along with my brother, Chewy. We are 1.75 years old and are working on lots of great stuff so we can be adopted soon! Check back for updates!! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Meet Leia, a beautiful, sweet female with a loving personality and lots of potential. She is almost 2 years old and weighs in around 34 pounds. Leia is a little lover when the sun goes down, wanting nothing more than to cuddle and nestle in beside you. When the sun comes up and she can see birds and squirrels, she loves being outdoors and active like any Boykin her age.
While she is “birdy” she is also somewhat meek at times and sensitive to loud noises. She is not, in the opinion of her foster mom, a candidate to become a hunting dog. But she will make a super companion dog. Leia loves to swim and loves to play with you. She needs a solid refresher on all her basic commands, walking on a leash and especially the recall. Calm, affirmative leadership is what will really work with Leia, as well as patience to help her build her confidence.
She house manners are good. She sleeps well in the crate and is completely housebroken. (no cats in the family please!)
Leia gets along with other dogs, but her foster mom believes to really thrive, it might be highly beneficial for her to an only dog for a while as she bonds with her new owners and sharpens up on her skills. She has been around children and she was very loving. But most of all she craves attentions from adults.
Leia needs an active environment and one where her humans are calm, fair, leaders. Experience obedience training dogs and general understanding of how to manage a dog day to day, is essential. New owners need to have a commitment to working with Leia to keep her active, trained and motivated. A fenced yard is also necessary.
September 2019 Update!
Thank you so much for the card. I love my forever home, Dad and mom were very easy to train. I love my big step sister Babe (a 14yr old black lab) and my cat Skunk who knocks things onto the ground for me when Dad's not looking. This doesn't happen when Mom's around because she is smart enough to put things away. I also like hanging out with my best friend Bauer who lives down the street, he is a rescue too, and a little younger than me. He is a funny yellow color, but that's ok. We go running in the park and down to the river every weekend. I go everywhere with Mom and Dad, we've been to North Carolina a bunch of times and I always get to go out on the boat. When I'm down there I play on the beach, but I have to keep my lead on because I don't always know where I am. When I am on the river at home I get to play with out it on, but I have to wear my life jacket when we're moving
I didn't know what snow was at first, but I love it. The chipmunks are hiding under the white blanket but I can sniff them out.
Mom and Dad hoped I would perk up my step sister Babe as she got older, she is 14 now, a little slower, but still happy all the time. Mission accomplished.
I hope my brother Chewie is doing well in his forever home too.
