My name is Lucky and I am a 2 year old male with lots of energy. I weigh about 32 lbs and have a curly coat. I am a very sweet boy, as long as you don’t leave me alone. I do not like being by myself and had I escaped several times before I came to Boykin Spaniel Rescue. So I consider myself an escape artist.....that is what I heard them call me.
I am good boy who likes attention but I suffer from separation anxiety. I like for my people to be close to me and I do not like crates at all. My foster family is working on helping me accept my crate. I have a foster brother who likes his crate, so I am giving it some thought. He did share his crate with me and it was ok for little while. We are working on leash walking. That is a work in progress cause I am always in a hurry so I pull. I love to run because I have lots of energy. I can jump too.I have no interest in retrieving but love to play with my canine brother. I really like having a playmate and play pretty well with my brother. I love toys and tend to hoard them all. I am almost there on house training and have only had a few accidents.
I will do best with someone that can be home most of the time so I don’t get so upset and scared. I need people who will train me and exercise me and give me mental stimulation too. They also need to be patient with me as I overcome by separation anxiety and learn to be confident. They need to be watchful of me until I settle in so I don’t escape again. Older, respectful children would be fine and also I am ok with cats. Another dog young enough to play with would be grand.
May 2020 Update
Lucky was excited to receive his Happy Gotcha Day card! This dog from day one joined our family with big fat kisses and sharing his belly for a good rub. We had a 6 month old pup when he arrived and they immediately became partners in crime. Lucky patiently put up with the pups poor manners and they are both now are joined at the hip. Lucky and Buddy take daily walks, play in the yard taking turns in chasing each other. Last year Lucky visited the mountains and had a blast swimming in the rivers and creeks. He also spent a week on Lake Murray in SC where he and Buddy enjoyed boat rides and swimming and retrieving in the lake. We couldn’t have asked for a better dog, we are grateful for all the great work that BSR does for this wonderful breed.
