Maggie Mae was originally surrendered to a shelter, but due to overcrowding was given up-to-date vaccinations and tested for heartworms then sent home with the owner while a rescue connection was made. BSR was contacted and took over the dog at the office of a local veterinarian who confirmed her positive heartworm status and other health issues. She was a wide-open, energetic 3 year old, and in addition to health care needs, she required a great deal of training!
2021 Update on Maggie Mae:
To my dear friends at Boykin Spaniel Rescue, Thank you for my forever family and home. My home has “real” food for me to eat and I have gained about 5 pounds since being adopted. I still like to tear up a paper towel from time to time, but I don’t eat them anymore– at least not often. I do pick fruit off our tomato plants, and I especially like the red ones. I enjoy dinner time and eat a bit too quickly.
I enjoy meeting people who come to visit us, but I will always be Daddy’s girl. My Boykin siblings, Marleigh and Morgan, and I are the welcoming committee and bark when folks pass by.
Mom cuts my hair and I enjoy my hair being brushed. I also like playing with the water from our hose but don’t like to get an occasional shower. And, I run and hide when it is time to have my ears cleaned. I like chewing bones, but my most favorite toy of all times is my “wiggle-giggle” ball. The ball makes noise as I roll it around.
Mom calls me her “Wild Thing” because I tend to search for things to occupy my time if I am kept inside on a hot, humid or rainy day. I especially enjoy going for walks and running around our gardens with Marleigh and Morgan. As expected, I sleep well at the night. Morgan taught me how to search for lizards and I taught myself how to find rabbits and moles.
