BSR 1088 Maisie's Story!
Bio: Maisey was heartworm positive and had a bladder infection when she entered BSR's care. Today she has settled into a terrific new home and is happy and healthy!
August 2019 Update!
Thank you for the Happy Gotcha Day Card! Maisie is doing quite well. For the first year, she struggled with storms - so scared she literally convulsed in fear, so that we'd have to medicate her when we knew storms were coming. Something changed this past July - and though she still doesn't like storms, she's no longer petrified of them, and there's been no need to medicate her.
We're gradually working with her off the lead. We couldn't do it for the longest time, as she'd walk (very fast) to get away from you, and then suddenly "lose her hearing" when you'd try calling her back. We never ran after her - always walked at a rapid pace until we were able to grab her collar - we have no idea how fast she can truly run - as her walk pace is SO FAST!
Recently, while doing some yard work, Maisie somehow didn't get hooked all the way to her lead - we didn't realize it, until she walked up to my husband in a spot he knew she couldn't reach on her lead. We've since started working with her off the lead and she seems to be doing quite well.
Maisie has a sister, Cali. They get along quite well. Have their playtime throughout the day, and like to rough-house a bit. Though they each have their own bed at night, you'll usually find them touching as they sleep, and Cali frequently cleans Maisie's ears.
Maisie has never felt like a visitor in our home - not from day 1. She reminded us so much of our Chloe who passed 1-1/2 yrs ago, prior to taking in Maisie - we both cried the first day she was in our home - because she just felt like family. We joked that after fostering her through the heartworm treatment, if our adoption didn't go through, we'd need to grab our dogs and make a run for the border, because Maisie already felt like ours from day one!
We've attached a few pictures. We love our Maisie dog - thank you for allowing us to be her furever home!
