Mollie's Bio:Meet Mollie (now Piper). 8 months old and a typical, wiggly, exuberant, mischievous, affectionate female Boykin puppy. At 15 pounds she is on the petite side but she has a big personality nonetheless. In her short life, Mollie has not had the chance to learn good basic manners. Housebreaking is her biggest challenge, along with learning basic obedience. Otherwise, she is a normal puppy with all the endearing and annoying qualities that we all love.
Mollie is very outgoing and loves being with people. She is great with other dogs and children (although older children would be best until she outgrows the mouthy, nipping puppy phase). She loves to cuddle and is super sweet and loves to be a lap dog. She is crate trained and is learning to sit for treats. She is mischievous and enjoys causing trouble among the other dogs in her foster home.
She is still working on walking on leash and is not yet reliable with the COME command. Housebreaking continues to be an issue and her foster family is working to determine the cause. Mollie probably did not have the opportunity to do her business outside of a concrete floored kennel and struggles with learning to “go” on the grass. In addition, she is currently on medication for a UTI which undoubtedly has contributed to her lack of progress. Since she is still very much a puppy she needs to work on chewing and playing with what is hers. Mollie needs careful watching while inside and outside. If left unattended she can become destructive out of boredom as any puppy would.
May 2018 Update! by Susanna Hearn
Hi all! My mom said I should send in an update because I have grown quite a bit and have been living the good life in Florida! My mom and her family fell in love with me the minute they picked me up in Virginia on September 2017, when I was known as Mollie. She was a little worried about adopting an adult dog because she thought I may not bond with her as much as her other Boykins, since she got them as puppies. Boy, have I proven her wrong! I follow her EVERYWHERE and while I love all of my furry and human family members, she's the one I look to from the moment I get up, to the moment I snuggle down in bed.
I started off with only a few curls and was a little underweight but I love food (I hear that's common with us Boykins?) and have the most beautiful curly soft coat now. Mom takes me with her everywhere she can, to the dog park, errands to Home Depot, out to the barn, and most importantly to horse shows. I have so much fun running around the big open fields and chasing whatever I can find. I also have been to the beach a few times, I'm not crazy about the water but playing in the sand is a blast. I've been on my first boat ride and also to this big fancy horse park in Kentucky where so many people knew what type of dog I was. Even one of the top competitors stopped to pet me because she has a Boykin too, she told me "Boykin's are the best!" Duh!
I love taking naps, chasing lizards in the backyard, playing with my brother Buck (Boxer mix) and sister Charlotte (Chihuahua) and sleeping in bed with mom at night. I have so many people that love me now and my mom is so grateful she was matched with me last year. I am very thankful that BSR took me in and placed me with awesome foster parents and ultimately found me a wonderful home.
