Bio: Shaw is a beautiful, 6yr old female who weighs about a 36lbs. An all around sweetheart, she is affectionate, playful, loves retrieving and may have been a titled field trial dog in her previous life. She loves attention and likes being beside you whenever she can. Often she will lay down beside her foster mom and seems content. She has a cute smile and wins the hearts of everyone she meets.
Her foster mom does not have experience with field trials, but reports that Shaw has a favorite stuffed duck that she loves to retrieve. She knows how to heel to the left side, to stay when the duck is thrown and responds to the “bag” command, running to retrieve the duck. She absolutely loves this and will do it for hours if you let her. She also knows heel, stay, sit and down but there could be more. Most of all Shaw is a smart, motivated Boykin and needs be exercised moderately to keep her happy and healthy. And she does like the water!
She does really well with her crate and will go in there sometimes just because she wants to chill out. Shaw seems to do fine without constant attention and can be left crated for several hours with no issues. When she gets excited, she does jump up, like most typical, happy Boykins. She has occasionally "peeked" up on the counter but gets down immediately when you tell her No. On leash walks she can get excited and pull but if you say heel, she comes to your side. So far in her foster home, she gets along well with the other dogs. She did attempt to be a little dominant with another female dog, but responded immediately to a strong NO by her foster. She loves all humans she meets, kids and adults. She is untested with cats.
The ideal home would be with someone who is willing to retrieve with her or maybe do some field trials. She needs humans who are committed to keeping her sharp mentally and physically by challenging her with the retrieving that she loves. A fenced in yard would be good since she has not been tested off leash. Other dogs in the house would be great for her but she would do fine as an only dog as well.
